The History of Scientific Games
The history of Scientific dates back to 1932. It was the time when pinball machines were invented. Bally, a company which Scientific Games will acquire later on, also started with inventing slot machines around this time. Fast forward to 1974, Scientific Games was able to create the world’s first instant lottery game!
In 1983, Autotote, the company that acquired Scientific Games, began public trading. It was in 2000 when Autotote finally acquired Scientific Games. By 2001, Autotote changed its name to Scientific Games. After this year, it has become all about changing history by making several firsts and acquiring companies for Scientific Games.
The firsts it was responsible for during this time were:
- the first internet lottery game in the US
- the first linked multi-state game
- and the first iPhone mobile app for lottery play
The companies it acquired, on the other hand, were WMS Industries and Bally Technologies. Scientific Games continued to acquire more companies. In 2016, it acquired four more companies:
- DEQ Systems Corp
- Spicerack Media
- Lapis Software Associates
- and Red7Mobile
It was also during this time that the TwinStar slot was created. In 2017, Scientific Games acquired NYX Gaming Group Limited. Its last endeavor to date was launching SG Digital together with NYX Gaming Group Limited.
